Sometimes you have a teacher who speaks very fast. You try your best to take notes but keep falling behind.
What do you do in such situation?
You can ask your teacher to go slow but she again and again forgets.
This can make you bit frustrated, right?

Well, you can learn to write using what is called as a “shorthand“.

The good news is that you don’t need a formal training to learn shorthand. Let me tell you some easy rules and then we will practice together:

Rules:

  1. Drop all the vowels when the word doesn’t start with a vowel. Example – rgstr for register, slsmn for salesman
  2. For 2 letter words, just write the first letter. Eg – t for to, i for in
  3. Use notations such as & for “and” where possible.
  4. Be careful to write difficult words and those words you have heard for the first time in full. Otherwise, you will get confused.

Now those are all very easy rules. Let’s see if I write something in shorthand using these rules, can you read it later.
Try reading the following and tell me what it means:

I’m gld I lrnt shrthnd. It svs 30% tm & I nvr hv t rqst tchr t stp fr m. I als cn fcs mr o th msg tchr i cnvying rthr thn gtng frstrtd abt msng sntncs.

Al t bst wrtng i shrthnd. It imprvs as u wl prctc mr.

Untl nxt tm, ths i Mht sgnng off..
