What’s most important as an evaluator is to have an evaluation framework ready. It could be different for you and me, and it could be different even for you at different occasions.
But the main point is to have a framework ready. As a matter of fact, the same thing applies to impromptu (Table Topic) speeches as well. If you have that you could use your initial 15-20 seconds to put the topic in that framework, before giving it a go.
While one can simply say that the Beginning, Body and Close (BBC) is already there, then why does one need anything else. Well, the reason is that the framework adds a different layer within the BBC which makes the speech organization more tangible besides giving the audience a unique experience.
While there are many frameworks which are available and nothing stops you from having one of your own, here’s one that I particularly found useful:
- Grab Audience Attention – Opening
- Acknowledge the speaker – Opening
- 1st Positive (Speaker’s biggest strength) – Body
- 2ndPositive (What you thought was good) – Body
- Suggestion for the 2nd Positive – Body
- Feedback to improve – Body
- Recommendation – Body
- Summarize – Closing
Here’s the example which illustrates this with an example.
So, use this framework in your next Evaluation speech, and share your experience of how it went.
What other frameworks you use which you think work well for you. I’d love to hear about that from you.
Until next time, this is Mohit signing off.
